Professor Black – Superchrist’s Chris Black in another life – has completely and utterly delivered the goods with this superb little six track EP.

It’s that rare beast – a punk-metal hybrid that actually manages to merge the two genres seamlessly – with each of the tracks packing more punch than most bands manage over the course of a whole album.

Best of the very good bunch is Act Alone, which grafts the Scandinavian ire of acts like Ondt Blod and Blodig Alvor onto a NWoBHM superstructure with dazzling results.

Stuck in the USA is a more straightforward rocker, with Black’s voice – strangely reminiscent of Blitzkrieg/Satan throat Brian Ross – cutting through nicely.

Closer to the Blade is a low-slung riffer of some style, chugging guitars and thudding bass drum driving the song along into a frankly brilliant chorus. There’s a concise but effective guitar solo thrown in for good measure.

All good then – all excellent, in fact – and let’s hope the good Professor has enough of this stuff up his sleeve to deliver a full-lengther very soon. Essential stuff.
