Buckcherry have been out ripping up the music scene for nigh on thirty years, producing great music. High octane, fast paced rockers, unforgettable ballads and most of all, the band are unapologetic in their lyrics.

Out on June thirteenth is their latest offering – Roar Like Thunder.  As soon as the opening riff and Josh Todd’s gravelly but melodic voice pounds out, you know what you are in for.  A great Rock N’Roll album, hooky riffs, tunes that get caught in your head and refuse to go away.  The consistency of this album attests to the tried-and-true formula that Buckcherry have employed with previous releases Hellbound and Vol. 10, recorded in Nashville at Sienna Studios and produced by Marti Frederiksen [Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, Ozzy Osbourne] referred to by Josh as the sixth band member. All ten tracks were written by vocalist Josh Todd, guitarist Stevie D, and Frederiksen.

This songwriting partnership has grown over the years (since 2005 and the 15 record) and produces more and more brilliant tracks.  In talking previously to Josh, he talked about how the trust has built between him and Marti.  How they go about writing a song to accomplish what Josh wants to express in the song, and it continues to come through in spades in this album. The music is loud, the lyrics are in your face and not sanitised which is refreshing in today’s musical landscape.

The album is a ten-track roller coaster ride in all the good ways, a celebration of pure rock and roll.  From the opening riff of the title track Roar Like Thunder until the last strains of the magnificent Let It Burn, there is no fat here. The songs aren’t overly long or technical, but that is the charm of the album.  Each song has its own Bluesy rock and roll swagger, at times channelling some of their idols – Come On definitely has a distinct AC/DC air, but is unmistakably Buckcherry.  Other stand out tracks include I Go Boom, When The Sun Goes Down and Set It Free.

If you love Buckcherry, then this new release won’t disappoint.

Roar Like Thunder is out this Friday 13th June through Earache Records, take it for a spin
