Well, what a superb and very entertaining surprise this little nugget was! Black29, you might be aware, feature the talents of Danzig/Samhain alumnus Steve Zing, and my word if the man doesn’t do those names proud on new offering The Waiting.

Zing and his songwriting foil Dan Tracey pull out all the stops on alluring rockers like Go Go Little One, pulling every last ounce of horror rockin’ inspiration out of a track that absolutely sounds like Danzig without actually, well, sounding like Danzig, if you see what I mean…

What I’m trying to say is that The Waiting is an incredibly evocative album; If you aren’t taken back to your misspent youth dancing to The Cult in seedy Goth clubs whilst listening to Waiting For The Sun To Go Down then there’s a fair chance this isn’t an album you’ll be spending a lot of time with. If it does, then the thumping likes of Of Love Of Hate Of Pain are going to be on your turntable for a long time to come, let me tell you- and you’re going to love every last second of that time…

Throughout the album the duo hit the sweetspot where metal, punk and goth collide with dead-eyed accuracy every time; Bleeding Love is possibly where they pull it off best, but – and I’m not overstating things here when I say this – there is quite literally not a weak point on the album to be found, meaning that whilst today Bleeding Love is your pick of the bunch, tomorrow the Kinky Destroyer will offer itself up as your new sonic best friend…

That’s it in a nutshell. All killer, no filler; and, at the end of the day, for all the dissection on influences and inspirations, a record that is just so goddamn enjoyable to listen to that it transcends criticism. Superbly executed, The Waiting demands a place in your record collection as soon as you are able to get hold of it. We don’t give ratings to albums here at Sentinel Daily, but if we did this would get the highest possible. Get it in your ears today!

The Waiting releases on March 3rd.
