Greetings, sir, and welcome to Sentinel Daily! We’ll get straight into the questions in a moment but first, please identify yourself, and your role in the band. “Hello, I am Gerre, singer of Tankard!”
First off, what was the best album you bought this year? “Jag Panzer‘s The Deviant Chord”
A great band and a solid album. What was the highlight for you personally in the last year? “Playing with Tankard in the Olympiastadion of Berlin before the German football Cup Final performing our song Schwarze–weiß wie Schnee for our fave team Eintracht Frankfurt“.
Brilliant! I wonder if the English FA would ever allow that sort of caper at Wembley? I doubt it. For those of you interested in the result, Eintracht went down 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund. Never mind. Here’s the song anyway!
Now back down to earth. What about personal lowlights? And who stunk the place out musically in 2017? “Not able to lose weight again… and Danzig‘s Black Laden Crown“.
What have you found disappointing about the wider world in 2017? “Wars, terror and very strange and stupid heads of state, without mentioning any names!”
Very diplomatically put. Looking ahead rather than back now, what’s on the cards for the band/you in 2018? “Playing as much as possible all around the world, for example- playing for only the second time in Japan since 1999”.
Something to look forward to! We’re coming up to the party season – what’s the better night – Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve? And what will you be drinking? “To be honest, I am not very interested in either things. I will drink orange juice as always”…(laughs).
I’m sure you will! What’s the first thing that springs to mind if I say ‘Australian metal’? “Pegazus, Mortal Sin, Black Majesty, Airbourne, Rose Tattoo and of course AC/DC“.
A nice selection! talking of which, we’ve just started Sentinel Daily Radio – what five songs should every metal radio station have on it’s playlist?
“Exciter– Heavy Metal Maniac, Anvil– Free as the Wind, Exodus– Bonded by Blood, Riot– Fire Down Under and OZ– Stop Believin‘”
Good stuff! would you consider taking a job as a programmer? Finally, anything else you’d like to say to the readers of Sentinel Daily? “Thanks a lot for your support over the last thirty five years, we would love to come back to Australia to have a big thrash metal party together with you! Cheers and keep on banging!”
Thanks for taking part!
Tankard release a retrospective of their time on AFM Records, Hymns for the Drunk, through AFM on January 12th.
