Following up from their acclaimed 2020 EP The Transience Of Flesh, Adelaide-based blackened death metallers Descend To Acheron hand down their latest offering in the form of The Welcoming Void.
The Welcoming Void is the most personal song that Descend To Acheron have ever released as it deals with the emotional side of loss. After the sudden and tragic suicide of co-founding member and long-time friend Matthew ‘Matti’ Phillips the band decided, after much contemplation, to complete the song they had been recording at the time of Matti’s death as tribute and goodbye to their friend. Lyrically the song is raw and confronting, musically it is chaotic and powerful. New bass player and death metal legend, Pahl ‘Doomsayer’ Hodgson (Beyond Mortal Dreams/Oath Of Damnation) has captured the spirit of Matthew’s playing on the track while bringing his own epic style to the table.
After recent manic and hyped performances at Blacken Open Air and The New Dead Festival this year, Descend To Acheron have gathered a renewed sense of intensity and urgency. Utilising this new found energy, the resolute cohort finish off their year by taking on Adelaide and Queensland in November to promote their new material, and then immersing themselves into 2023 with the release of their debut album.
